Scientific paradigm that shifted art
The discovery of linear perspective was one and perhaps the only scientific paradigm shift which profoundly influenced the art of European civilization. Geometry that now underlaid the image, gave the true naturalistic proportions and helped create an accurate picture of natural phenomena. Such an image was used for the first time in history not to show God's perspective, but to portray objective reality from the human point of view (http://maitaly.wordpress.com/2011/04/28/brunelleschi-and-the-re-discovery-of-linear-perspective/). The further discoveries of the camera obscura and photography changed the western perception of image entirely. However, the perception of image was twisted similarly to how natural sciences became twisted with postmodern philosophy. The image could be manipulated so it could be the tool for manipulation - perspective had to be broken and put aside in favor of the fully subjective image that does not have any power to represent reality, but only the feelings of an individual and their subjective state of mind. Truth and image were separated and the logical conclusion of this separation was: if you cannot reach the truth, then there is no need to even attempt its pursuit. Everything became subject to context and every point of view became only a particular, fragmental possibility that contributes to the relativity of all ideas.
If the last vanishing point of the modern era was embodied in the ability to break the atom ( Greek for "indivisible") and to create a nuclear weapons, than the other vanishing point of the (post)modern era is possibility to fully transfigure genetic structure of living things. And while the first- nuclear disaster has the radioactive decay half-life (so in time it become less and less radioactive), possibility of biological disaster is reversed- in time the possible danger increases with each generation of new reproductive living creatures...
Natural sciences that deals with logic, proof and veryfiability, changes the perspective of the philosophy: biological and physical foundation of perceiving nature, human nature and also historical, sociological and psychological conclusions, narrowed the perspective lines of the postmodern philosophy into the vanishing point.
Natural sciences dealing with logic, proof and verifiability, changed the perspective of philosophy. The biological and physical foundations of the perceiving nature - human nature, as well as the findings of historical, sociological and psychological research somehow narrowed the lines of perspective delineating the realm of postmodern philosophy until vanishing. At the far end - at the vanishing point of this perspective - lies the possibility for a new turn of art. This would influence art in a similar way as perspective once already did: with better tools for understanding human nature, for examining and representing the human need for deeper meaning and therefore not diminishing, but augmenting our possibly for freedom. The vanishing point of this "perspective as a symbolic form" could become the turning point for art.
